This red haired, freckled faced hero, raised on a farm in the United States died here on a farm field in Italy doing more than his share to try to make this a better world for all of us. You also honor our whole family - how proud our Mother and Father would be. With this memorial a permanent bond is established and the memory of 1st Lt. James P. Dibble will live forever. May the long arms of friendship and mutual respect between the people of our two great countries also exist forever. We are very, very grateful for your open expression of friendship and respect. Dibble: The Monument in Padula, Italy Description An account of the resource The citizens of Padula, Italy, were extremely friendly and helpful during Jim & Ted Dibble's search for answers to their uncle's death. As everyone learned more about James and what happened, they viewed James as a hero and wanted to honor him. In May 2005 they erected a monument to his memory and sacrifice in helping them win freedom during WWII.
