BEACH IANDBFt PATROL IISSION - 10 P~38s, Lts. Anderson/'Schweickert/Sokol/Pettus,
Lowery Duffy Thiessen; VriLakas; Niles/and Lipper/ took off at O43O hours to
patrol beach area (pears). Formation flew a course of 5 degrees to beach area,
reaching it at.0610 hours at altitude of 14,000 feet. Lt. Pettus returned

heat!'Jr: enroute, hazy; over beaches, 3/10ths Cirus clouds at 25,000 feet; on re­
turn, hazy but clearing. 9 P~38s discontinued patrol at 0715 hours and landed at
base at 0800 hours.

12,000 feet from 1730 to 1840 hours. Many ships seen in on beach. Much small boat
activity. Italian Ma.202s were seen flying at 8,000 feet, (bearing German markings),
with A-36b at 1740 hours. 2 light puffs of flak seen in Apples area, west of SALERNO.
Weather; over all routes and areas, hazy. Patrolling discontinued at 1840 hours
and formation flew a course heme of I85 degrees. No target of opportunity was given.
