NARRATIVE
21 P~38s of the 94th Fighter Squadron, Lts. Dibble’, Hoffman; Thiessen7 Pittman;
Anderson', Howard; Kienholz*, Sweickert; Sokolf Muffit*, Phillips, Huff; Bower;
Van Sicey lee^ Pettu^J ’Nile^ Darnell, Schulze; Schaper*'and Vrilakas; together
with formations from’ the 27th and 71st Fighter Squadrons, took olx '^t 1015
hours to escort B-26s over GRAZZANISE and satellites, P~38s going over target
at 14,000 feet, B-26s at 12,000 feet. Lt. Phillips returned early because his
left engine was cutting out, landing at 1025 hours. Bombing was riot observed
because of clouds. After leaving target, 15 to 20 Me.109s attacked our formation,
not becoming aggressive until towards the end of the fight. It, Lee destroyed

seen far to the rear of our formation but did not attack. Lts. Dibble, Hoffman,

lours, up at 1530 hours and down at GEKBIlil 7/8 at 1545 hours. B-26s broke
