Dibble, Schvreickert, Thiessen, Pettus, Bower, Duff, Hanton, Kienholz, Niles, Vrilakas, Schulze, Phil!ips, Sokol and Van Sice, together with formations from the 2?th and 71st Fighter Squadrons, took off at 1605 hours to strafe GRAZZANISE SATELLITE #1, formation flying from 0 to 100 feet. Lts, Sokol and Van Sice, the spares, returned and landed at 3LS45 hourj. A/D was very difficult to see because of trees and dense foliage and it is believed that camouflage was used effectively. Lt. Thiessen destroyed 1 Me.109 and damaged another on the A/D. Lt, Vrilakas destroyed 2 Me.109s. Lt. Schulze damaged 2 Me.109s. Lt. Pettus damaged 3 Me.109s. No enemy aircraft encountered. Lt. Dibble destrc red 1 truck in pass near A/D. A/d was well populated by per£ ?sonnel and also along 1 sach. A gun pit in 1 >rth central part of f ield was also shot up. One large fire war; started in no: >h corner of a/d dispersal area. High tens: ision power lines w::. <.'■ ; iot tot up-adjacent to field. Radar Station on VENTOTENE ISLAND was believed destroyed* rzedi 12 P~3Ss down ■ t 1945 hours. CHRONOLOGY: Time off 1605 hours Time over target 1757 hrs. Time down 19? 5 hrs ROUTE: 90 degrees to ZEMRRA thence to USTINA to initial point thence to target. ^20 degrees on return. RESULTS OF STRAFFING: 3 Me.l09s destroyed, 3 Me.109s damaged, gun pit shot up, 1 truck destroyed, Radar Station believed destroyed and high tension lines shot up.
