No missions this date. Jtily 31, 1943. BOMBER ESCORT MISSION - 15 P-38’9, Lts. Hageriback, Sias, Kipper, Kienholz, Brophy, F/0, Allan, Sager, Herr, Opdahl, Phillips, Jacobsen, Wilson, Niles Hanton and C-rieshaber, took off at 0854 hours to escort 33 E-26’s over ADRANO A/D, Sicmr. Route: to target, direct to Southeast SIGH!, thence to target. Weather: to targe , hazy; over target, hazy with scattered clouds, Farming: hits were o served on field south of tom. The formation was over the target at 1O:Z|O h urs; bombers at 12,000 feet; the P-38’s at 13,000 and 13,000 feet. J’c r. iy aircraft were encountered. Flak: North­ west of target, heavy, tracks, light intensity and accurate. Route: en route to base: direct. Weather; to base, hazy. At approximately app 10:00 ,o catch fire, ; hours on the way to target, one B-26 was seen to and smoke. This B-26 landed safely at MALTA. The spares, Lts. Niles, lianton and Grieshaber, returned and ladded at 1215 hours. No other sightings observed. remainder of the formation returned and landed at 1244 hours.
