9,000 feet and dropped banks at 4,000 feet at 0830 hours on the road junction
just southeast of ADRANO. Bombing: hits were scored on the road junction and
a convqy of about 100 eneny vehicles, destroying about 30 of them. 1 truck was
damaged by straffing nearby. Scattered units ctf 2 or 3 trucks were observed
moving north and east in northcentral part of eastern SICIEf. No enemy aircraft
encountered. No flak encountered. Route: From base to a point just east of
PORTO EMPEDOCIE, thence to CALTANISSETTA, thence to VAIGUARNERA, thence to
AG IRA, thence to TEOINA, thence to ADRANO, the- e to ENNA, out to sea over PORTO

Lts. Lentz and Brophy, each carrying 1 500 pound bomb (Inst, and .045), took off |
at 1058 hours to dive bomb targets of opportunity in northwest SICILY. The for­
mation flew at 8,500 feet, dropped their bombs at 4,000 feet at 1210 hours on
the railroad station and marshal 1 irg yards at LEONFCBTS. Hits were scored in

the marshalling yards and the adjacent highway junction, destroying about 30

Storer, its. Lentz and Brophy, returned and landed at ‘1256 hours. Weather: to
target, scattered 2/10s clouds at 2,000 feet; over target, CAVU. Route: from
base to MERINA, thence to VALLELUNGA, due east to a point Just south of NICOSIA,
thence to IEONFCRTE, due west along road to S. CATERINA, thence to PCRTO EMPEDOCLI
and return to base. Lt. Qpdahl landed at GaP© BON at 1335 hours because of
shortage of gas; ho took off at 3355 hours and landed at 1425 hours. The ramaind
of the formation landed at 1405 hours.
