Anderson, Sager, Miller, Cram, Lents, Opdahl, Jackson, Fell, Hanton, each
carrying 1 500 pound bomb (Inst. and .045), took off at 0938 hours to dive bonfc
enemy convoys in the central part of western SICILY. The formation flew at
6,000 feet and dropped bombs (except It Herr whose bomb failed to release), a1
3,000 feet at 1100 hours on about 20 trucks moving in a southeasterikjdirectio:
at S. CATTERINA, destroying 8. The formation then straffed about 25 dneny

to sea, thence to base. Weather: to target, scattered clouds, 2/108, at
2,000 feet; over.target, CAVU. The Allied Navy was seen to be shelling the ■

seen off shore from PORTO EMPEDOCLE at 1630 and 1700 hours. Lts. Lentz, Dibble,
and Sager, spares, returned ahd landed at 1755 hours. Lt. Grieshaber had
difficulty in lowering his landing gear and landed at 1847 hours. The remainder.!
